The Minelab Gold Monster series exists to do one job supremely well: find small gold in mineralised ground without demanding that the operator become a ground-balancing expert.
Both machines pair a very high operating frequency with fully automatic ground balance and sensitivity — the design decision that made the original Gold Monster 1000 such a common first prospecting machine. You switch on and detect; the machine handles the hot rocks.
The step up from 1000 to 2000 is about refinement rather than reinvention — improved sensitivity to the smallest targets and updated handling. If you already own a 1000 and hunt occasionally, the case for upgrading is modest. If you are buying your first dedicated gold machine, buy the newer platform.
Gold Monster is a high-frequency VLF machine, not pulse induction. That makes it excellent on shallow, small gold and considerably less capable at depth in the most severely mineralised ground, where Minelab's GPX and GPZ series take over.
